Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a dogwood blossom featuring striped petals, accented with rays and flanked by two leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Excellent decoration, color, and size, featuring desirable slip-trailed application to the design. Provenance: Eleanor C. Stipp Collection (includes red Stipp Collection labels on reverse and underside); Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. Rim chips. Nicks and wear to inner rim for lid. A 1 1/8" chip to proper left handle. H 9 7/8".
