Unusual Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1980s, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face including kaolin eyes with cobalt pupils and incised eyelashes, eyebrows, nose with carved nostrils, ears, and mouth with feminine lips, created without teeth. Surface covered in a mottled glossy-to-matte, olive-colored alkaline glaze. Incised with Lanier Meaders signature on underside. Possibly made to represent a woman. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. As-made condition with a firing crack to lower handle terminal. H 9 3/4".
