Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jug with narrow, squared spout, decorated at the shoulder with a slip-trailed kaolin slip "4" within a stylized flower blossom against a mottled-olive, alkaline-glazed ground. Provenance: Richard and Cindy Pearce Collection. Spout chips. Otherwise excellent condition. H 16 1/2".
