Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and arched lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse in bold iron slip with two rows of drapes and below each handle with a looping line motif, all against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. A thin sealed 7 1/2" crack ascending base, additionally extending a few inches onto underside. Otherwise excellent condition. H 16".
