Small-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tapered shoulder and narrow, semi-rounded mouth, decorated in iron slip with a bold slip-trailed looping line design against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Provenance: Acquired from Bill Beck. Essentially as-made condition with in-the-firing pings on interior, painted black. These pings correspond vaguely to two small in-the-firing pings on the exterior of the jar, although it remains to be seen if the exterior pings actually continue entirely through to the interior. A few extremely minor base nicks. H 8 1/4".
