Exceedingly Rare Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Inscribed "KING / TUT / JUG / #8," Signed "Edwin / Meaders / 2-12-1994," Cleveland, GA, 1994, semi-ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face featuring oval eyes, large nose with carved nostrils, closed mouth, broad chin, and crescent-shaped ears with depressed centers. Elaborate incised throughout. Surface of jug glazed red with blue highlighting the face and weeping green treatment to eyes and nose. Reverse incised "KING/ TUT / JUG / #8." Underside incised with Edwin Meaders signature and date. This work's rare and dramatic glaze and incised treatments define it as the finest example of Edwin Meaders pottery that we have ever offered. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 9 3/4".
