Unusual Small-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Impressed Seven Times "J.W. Bull," probably Hartford, CT origin, mid 19th century, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a stylized three-petaled flower blossom on the front. Impressed seven times on the side and reverse with a small stamp bearing the cursive name, "J.W. Bull." As detailed in John A. Walthall, Queensware Direct from the Potteries: U.S. Importers of Staffordshire Ceramics in Antebellum America, 1820-1860, published by the Illinois State Archaeological Survey in 2013, "John W. Bull founded a Hartford china and crockery retail and wholesale business in 1830. ... Prior to his retirement ... in 1857, he formed the partnership of Bull & Sage, crockery merchants." Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8 1/2".
