Rare Miniature Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Applied Decoration, Stamped "CHARLES COLLIER," Northeastern U.S. origin, third quarter 19th century, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tall collar with prominent rim molding, decorated around the midsection with applied buttons and at the collar with a banner, impressed "CHARLES COLLIER," flanking two additional buttons. Handle formed from two twisted pieces of clay with impressed screwheads to upper terminal and applied clay screwhead to lower terminal. Rim with molded and applied scroll motif. Belly of pitcher highlighted completely in cobalt, along with cobalt highlights to applied decoration and handle. An imaginatively-decorated work of exceptional size. Applied scroll motif was lost during the firing to the spout area and proper left side of the rim. Heavy chipping to spout, small rim chips, and a worn section to rim. A chip to applied banner with name and wear to ends of banner. A chip to bottom edge of rim molding. H 4 7/8".
