Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering tulip plant bearing one open blossom and three buds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes a domed stoneware lid with cobalt swag decoration, American, 19th century. A small chip to each handle. Two chips to front of rim. Additional wear to rim. Edge wear and a small chip to each handle. Some light surface wear. A 2 3/4" Y-shaped line to midsection on reverse. Lid in excellent condition. H 12".
