Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a flower vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Significant surface restoration throughout, not affecting decoration, with paint to much of the crock including its handles and rim. A 2" in-the-firing crack from rim on interior. Small chips to interior of rim. A large in-the-firing iron ping near base on reverse, which is glazed over. H 10 3/4".
