Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Abstract Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE WST 12TH ST NY," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a cross-shaped foliate motif interspersed with four groups of graduated diagonal slashes. Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Excellent condition with minor staining, a minor chip to one handle, and shallow chips and wear to inner rim for lid. H 11 3/4".
