Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Lid, attributed to J. Keister & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated with an elaborate swag design around its circumference. Includes its original salt-glazed lid. A Y-shaped crack on underside, forming a curving crack to base area on side of jar. An in-the-firing surface flake (contact mark) to midsection. Chips to lid. H (including lid) 9 1/2".
