Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. KEISTER & CO. / STRASBURG, VA.," circa 1870, cylindrical form with flaring collar, applied lug handles, and tooled accents to shoulder and rim, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a stem bearing graduated leaves and two flower blossoms. Graduated swag decoration to collar. Includes original salt-glazed stoneware lid and old wooden dasher. Impressed under one handle with J. Keister and Co. maker's mark. Overfiring/discoloration to surface. Wear and old, minor chips to rim. Minor wear to handles. Some minor scratches to surface. Lid with chips to edge and wear to opening H 15 5/8".
