Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and extruded lug handles, brush-decorated over slip-washed clay with an "Indian necklace" floral motif and two smaller flowers descending from a series of swags. Impressed under one handle with a Solomon Bell maker's mark below a four-gallon capacity mark. A thin crack across underside, forming a Y at base on one side and a short line at base on opposite side. A few small chips to interior of rim. Scratches to exterior surface. H 14 3/4".
