Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Wheeling, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooling to spout and shoulder, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "R.A. McCABE & CO. / WHOLESALE / DRUGGISTS, / WHEELING, / W. VA.," flanked by stenciled wheat motifs. Graduated freehand swag decoration to shoulder above a wavy freehand stripe. Base with large stenciled "3" flanked by stenciled flourishes above a freehand stripe. Left shoulder with in-the-firing crazing and two small in-the-firing contact marks, one including a piece of adhered clay. Minor crazing to front of jug. Chipping to base of spout. Light staining to reverse. H 16 1/2".
