One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, applied clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse, decorated on the reverse with an elaborate stenciled design, on the front with a freehand wreath, and floral motifs at the tabs at the shoulder. Chipping to spout. One rim chip. Some staining and in-the-firing discoloration to surface. H 8 3/4".
