Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock, Stamped "HARRISBURG PA.," attributed to John Young, Harrisburg, PA, circa 1856-1858, low-walled cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with two large tulips emanating from a cluster of leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Desirable form and early Harrisburg stamp. A thin top-to-bottom crack from rim on left side of crock, becoming very thin as it descends, with an associated small rim chip and some associated crazing. A 1 1/2" crack from rim on front. A small in-the-firing ping to bottom edge on reverse. Dimensions: 10 1/4" x 5 1/4".
