Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, Stamped "A,J, BUTTLER, / MANUFACTERUR(sic) / NEW-BRUNSWICK, N J," circa 1862-1872, both of squat-shaped form, a two-gallon example with freehand "2" flanked by swags and a three-gallon example with freehand "3" underscored by three tulip blossoms, its handle decorated with stripes along with highlights at the terminals. Shorter in excellent condition with some staining. Taller in excellent condition with some staining and a small in-the-firing ping near base on front. H (of taller) 12".
