Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Central PA origin, circa 1865-1885, a batter pail with stenciled and brushed decoration and tin lid, stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," paired with an unusual handled apple butter jar with brushed floral motif, Harrisburg or Pittston, PA origin. Batter pail with a large inverted Y-shaped crack descending from a rim chip on reverse, chipping to spout, and a minor U-shaped line to rim. Jar with two adjacent rim chips, measuring a total of 1 1/2", a shallow 3/4" rim chip, a 3 1/2" crack from rim, some fry to cobalt, and a 4" surface line to underside, not visible on interior. H (of jar) 7 3/4".
