Fine and Scarce Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Snake Jug, Incised "Little Brown Jug/ By / Anna Pottery / 1876," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1876, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and semi-squared spout, featuring a hand-modeled snake handle with incised and impressed details. Incised across the front with the inscription, "Little Brown Jug / By / Anna Pottery / 1876." Surface covered in a dark-brown "gun metal" Albany slip glaze. Immaculate condition, desirable Centennial date, and unusual metallic glaze. Slightly larger than most examples of this form that we have seen. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 5 3/4".
