Multi-Glazed Redware Flowerpot, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG," VA origin, circa 1890, semi-ovoid flowerpot with attached saucer and coggled rims, the surface covered in cream-colored slip, decorated with splashed copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed on shoulder with S. Bell & Sons maker's mark. A lesser-seen marked example with unusual, semi-ovoid form and excellent color. Provenance: From an eighty-plus year private collection. Wear to top and side of rim. Wear to edge of saucer. Short lines to saucer. H 8 1/8".
