Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Louisville, KY Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "BAYLESS McCARTHEY / & CO. / LOUISVILLE / KY." Chips to interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. Small surface lines to rim on reverse. A 1" line on underside, extending 1 1/2" up reverse. A 1 3/4" in-the-firing fissure on underside, continuing 1 7/8" up base on front, glazed over on interior. Two tiny base nicks. Some light surface wear. Minor nicks to shoulder molding. H 8".
