Fine Manganese Decorated Redware Ale Mug, Stamped "J. BELL," Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1840, delicately-potted mug with ovoid body, footed pedestal base, and cylindrical collar, decorated around the body with spiraling manganese sponging under a clear lead glaze. Additional manganese decoration to rim and handle. Impressed with early-period John Bell maker's mark on collar. Provenance: From an eighty-plus year private collection. Very nice condition with some light wear to body and rim as well as a 1 3/4" surface line to interior of rim area, not visible on exterior. H 5 3/4".
