Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with flared collar and arching tab handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with swags and hanging tulips above continuous horizontal tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Outstanding decoration and color. A thin Y-shaped crack in underside connecting to a long T-shaped hairline at base on front and a long diagonal hairline on right side of jar. A 1 1/4" filled chip in underside, which does not extend through to interior. A small chip to the end of one handle. A small rim chip. A few small base chips. Some in-the-firing contact marks to surface. H 14 1/2".
