One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with flared rim and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing two different blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Includes associated Albany-slip-glazed stoneware lid. Jar with two chips to one handle, a minor glazed-over dent in opposite handle, some wear to cobalt, and nicks and wear to inner rim for lid, cracks in underside, a minor craze line to shoulder on reverse, and staining. Lid with a few minor edge nicks and staining to surface. H 10".
