Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Stenciled Floral Decoration, attributed to the Whelchel Family, Gaffney, SC, fourth quarter 19th century, semi-ovoid churn with flared rim and open, diagonally-applied handles, stencil-decorated in brown slip with a stylized cotton plant over a grayish-glazed ground. Reverse incised "4" at shoulder. One handle crudely restored. Otherwise excellent condition. H 17 1/4".
