Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "EAGLE POTTERY," James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle carrying banner, inscribed "EAGLE POTTERY." Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. A sealed 5" inverted Y-shaped crack descending from rim. Another sealed 5" inverted Y-shaped crack descending from rim on reverse. A small in-the-firing ping to rim. Two tiny chips to interior of rim and a tiny chip to inner wax sealer rim. Light staining. Minor surface wear. H 9 5/8".
