Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with a cluster of grapes hanging from a leafy vine with looping tendril. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Some restoration to cobalt. Restoration to spout. A few small in-the-firing pings to surface, which are glazed over. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing chip to bottom edge. Two in-the-firing chips to underside at edge, measuring 1 3/4" and 1 1/2". A small spot of blue paint at base on reverse, unrelated to any sort of restoration. H 16 5/8".
