Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical form with footed base, recessed circular opening in top, and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated with petal-like brushwork around the opening at the shoulder and a series of leaves around the body. Impressed with "R.C.R. / PHILA." maker's mark below opening. Long cracks along top edge including an approximately 2 1/2" hairline descending from it and one crack extending from the rim to the opening in the top of the spittoon. One base chip. Dimensions: 7" x 4 1/8".
