Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and horseshoe-shaped handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a horizontal stem bearing tulips and graduated swags. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A large area of restoration to base. A 3" restored section to one handle. A minor chip to same handle. A shallow 1 1/2" flake to top of rim. A thin 11 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on reverse. H 14 1/2".
