Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Norton Family, Bennington, VT, circa 1828-1841, a one-gallon cylindrical crock, stamped "L. NORTON / BENNINGTON," VT origin, circa 1828-1833, decorated with wreath-like brushwork below the maker's mark and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and handle terminals, paired with a one-gallon ovoid jug with brushed floral motif and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark, stamped "L. NORTON & SON," circa 1833-1841. Crock with a 1 1/2" crack above right handle, an 8" diagonal crack from rim on reverse including small flakes along crack, a recessed in-the-firing contact mark to reverse, rim chips, small iron pings to rim area, a 1/2" in-the-firing surface fissure to front of rim, and a tiny in-the-firing nick to one handle. Jug with large reglued section to spout, a 3" hairline from spout, and some staining. H 7 1/8".
