Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT:," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with squared spouts and two applied handles at the shoulder, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a stem bearing three flowers, accented with spotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A small in-the-firing spout chip with molten iron residue. Other small spout chips. Short minor lines to spout on reverse. Staining. A tight 3" crack on underside, forming a 1 1/4" Y-shaped line at base on front. A 3" vertical line and a 2" vertical line at base on front, probably in-the-firing. H 19".
