Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, large-sized, ovoid-bodied pitcher with tapered collar and flared rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch with turned, upward-gazing head facing the maker's mark. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A thin 4 1/2" crack from rim to right of spout. Rim chips. A minor chip to exterior of spout where it meets the rim. Water glass staining to interior. Some light staining. A salt drip near base on right side. H 14".
