Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO / Pa.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled hanging floral motif above James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with bold-faced stenciled "3" flanked by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 2 1/2" X-shaped hairline to left side of jar's front. A 5" inverted Y-shaped hairline below right handle. A 1 3/4" hairline from rim above right handle. Some light staining. Minor in-the-firing flaws. H 13 1/2".
