Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of a flower with heavily-detailed blossom, curved stamen, and scrolled swag designs to the leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Small rim chips. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing iron ping to interior of rim. Faint surface lines on reverse, not visible on interior. Staining throughout. H 10 1/4".
