Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plant with fern-like foliage. Slip-trailed "3" above. Brushed cobalt accent to maker's mark. A network of tight lines to one side below handle. A tight 3" Y-shaped surface line below opposite handle. A small in-the-firing surface fissure on reverse. A faint 2 1/2" Y-shaped surface line to underside, not visible on interior. H 10".
