Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a lesser-seen slip-trailed design of a turned head bird perched on a stump. Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Appealing design and size. A spout chip. A small in-the-firing iron ping to base and left side of jug. H 11 1/2".
