Extremely Rare Stoneware Hanging Flowerpot, Stamped "THOMAS & BRO.," Huntingdon, PA, circa 1875, ovoid form with footed base, rounded shoulder molding, and wide rim with crimped edge and original piercings for hanging. Original drain hole in underside. Surface covered in an Albany slip glaze. Literature: Illustrated in Lasansky, Made of Mud: Stoneware Potteries in Central Pennsylvania 1831-1929, p. 20. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA; purchased by Shedd at Part III of the Albert M. Swank Collection Sale, Aug. 1972, lot 604. A 7/8" rim chip with a 3 1/4" Y-shaped hairline descending from it. H 5" ; Diam. 6".
