Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Impressed Decoration, attributed to Shimuel Timmerman, Lanier County, GA, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and semi-rounded rim, the midsection decorated with two rows of hand-carved punctates formed with a wide stylus- a highly unusual treatment. Designed to resemble coggle wheel decoration, the pitcher's gouged embellishments are actually each formed individually. Surface covered in a green alkaline glaze. Desirable form and highly unusual decorative banding. A 1 1/2" x 1" loss to bottom edge and additional shallow chipping to base, all of which may be in-the-making. A small piece of adhered in-the-firing residue near base on front. A few rim chips. Minor spout wear and two short surface lines on interior of spout, not visible on exterior. H 8".
