Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with graduated swag motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a dash of cobalt below each handle. Impressed under one handle with Richard C. Remmey maker's mark. A restored top to bottom crack along right edge of one handle, connecting to an unrestored Y-shaped hairline on underside. A tiny chip to same handle. A glazed-over loss and two small chips to opposite handle. A small chip to exterior of rim. A 1" chip to interior of rim. H 5 7/8" ; Diam. 9 5/8".
