Stoneware Face Jug, attributed to Brown Pottery, Arden, NC, circa 1930, ovoid jug with applied facial features, including bulging eyes with raised and pierced pupils, eyebrows, a Roman nose with carved nostrils, small ears with pierced centers, and open mouth baring broken china teeth. Incised eyelashes and details to eyebrows. Surface covered in a brown Albany slip glaze. Unmarked. An in-the-firing flake to edge of nose. Loss to one eyebrow, possibly in-the-making. Various in-the-firing lines surface lines/fissure, including one on underside. H 6 1/4".
