Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO / PA.," circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated at the midsection with James Hamilton maker's stenciling and various stenciled motifs, including small tulips. Shoulder freehand decorated with a freehand swag and wavy striple. Base with freehand "2" flanked by dashes, above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Some crazing and in-the-firing contact marks to surface. A minor chip to molding at base of collar on reverse. A minuscule nick to interior of spout. Two slashes at base on front, accidently carved prior to the firing. H 14".
