Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. SWANK & CO. / JOHNSTOWN, PA," circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and tooled rim, decorated with a sweeping freehand tulip motif across the front. Foliate devices on each side of the collar. Swag decoration to spout. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal and freehand flower blossom highlighting the lower terminal. Crazing/hairlines to pitcher, primarily to underside, base, and right side, and to a small extent front and left side, some of which is visible on the interior. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim on interior, partially visible on exterior. An in-the-firing contact mark to front. An in-the-firing contact mark with a 1 1/8" surface chip to reverse. H 11".
