Scarce One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "* POTTERY. / IXL / HAVENS," Muskingum County, OH origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with freehand dashes above and flanking the maker's mark as well as looping brushwork below. Cobalt stripes to handle. Maker's mark includes an impressed star followed by the word, "POTTERY.," presumably indicating the name of the operation was "Star Pottery." Further marked below with the initials, "IXL," representing the slogan, "I excel," followed by the pottery owner's name, Havens. Very nice condition with a few small spout chips. H 12".
