Stoneware Canning Jar with Manganese Decoration, Signed "G N Fulton," George Newman Fulton, Alleghany County, VA, circa 1875, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and flared rim, the jar's upper body dipped in manganese slip, its lower body dipped in a light-colored slip. Jar is brush-decorated two-thirds around its circumference with the signature, "G N Fulton," along with floral and swag motifs. Two rim chips, two minor rim nicks, and some rim wear. Faintness to decoration, typical of Fulton's work. H 10 3/4".
