Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed flowering stem bearing well-detailed blossoms with long stamens. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 13 1/2" inverted T-shaped crack from rim on front, including a small, partially filled and colored chip at shoulder. Some in-the-firing discoloration to right side of churn and base area. Additional staining. Minor nicks and wear to inner rim for lid. A 1" in-the-firing iron ping to reverse at base. H 18 1/4".
