Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO: / BENNINGTON, VT:," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a floral spray featuring highly unusual serrated leaves, circular blossoms, scrolled vines, and spotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 1 3/4" base chip on reverse with a faint 1 5/8" line ascending from it. A hairline through base of handle. A shallow 1/2" chip to top of spout. A faint 7 3/4" line across underside. Minor surface wear. H 15 1/2".
