Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed design of a two-stemmed tulip plant featuring an open blossom and bud. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. A 1 3/8" glazed-over base chip on front. A 3/4" contact mark (surface chip) near base on side of jug. H 13 1/2".
