Three-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a two-stemmed daisy plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 7" diagonal crack from rim on reverse. A 2 1/4" line at base on reverse, forming a 4" Y on underside. A small, in-the-firing surface fissure to underside, not visible on interior. A faint 4" horizontal Y-shaped line at base on front. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim descending into the end of one handle. A 1 1/4" line above opposite handle. Water glass staining to interior. A 3/4" in-the-firing ping to shoulder on interior. H 8 5/8" ; Diam. (across top) 11 3/4".
