One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated with a brushed tulip on the reverse and wreath-like brushwork flanking the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, pierced clay "ears," and terminal of handle at base. Heavy chipping to spout. A large Y-shaped line on underside. Vertical surface lines in collar. A smooth 1 1/4" rim chip. Minor chipping to molding at base of collar. Wear to ears at shoulder and handle at base on reverse. H 8 3/4".
